There are moments that make you truly proud to be Filipino, and then there are moments that feel like a dream come true. As someone who has grown up inspired by her voice, and as a massive fan of her iconic work as the singing voice of Disney princesses Jasmine and Mulan, seeing Lea Salonga take her rightful place among global icons at Madame Tussauds felt really personal.

She has always been my favorite Disney princess, so you can imagine my excitement at being able to see her wax figure in person. Having the chance to witness this milestone and see her “twin” even before it made its way to its permanent home in Singapore was truly an honor and a memory I will treasure forever.

What made this experience even more special was learning the story behind the figure’s attire. The wax figure is dressed in Lea’s own stunning blue piece created by her lifelong friend and favorite designer, Rajo Laurel.

Knowing this dress was worn by Lea for concert performances over a decade ago adds such a beautiful, nostalgic touch. It feels like a piece of her history was immortalized right along with her. As Lea shared, she chose this dress because it best represented her personality and sensibilities as a performer. Seeing it in person, you can really feel that sense of history and grace.

Lea Salonga officially becomes the fourth Filipino celebrity to be immortalized in wax, joining Pia Wurtzbach, Manny Pacquiao and Catriona Gray. Watching her join this lineup of global icons is surreal. While an exclusive private launch at Solaire Resort Entertainment City, I was lucky enough to see her “twin” up close during the Klook Travel Fest at SM Megamall. It was fascinating to see the craftsmanship, the sculptors spent up to six months perfecting every detail to capture her spirit and magnetic stage presence.
