Asia’s First Global Museum of Visual Culture – M+ Museum, Hong Kong

Hong Kong: Here and Beyond – The visual culture of the city from the 1960s to now. Most tourists brand Hong Kong as a shopping paradise and the home to the Happiest Place on Earth, but you should also know that Hong Kong is more than that and by visiting the 1-year old M+ Museum, you get to know Hong Kong more through its celebrated art, architecture, design and cinema. You also get to discover visual art collections from the 20th and 21st century that are deeply rooted in Asia.

The M+ Museum is Asia’s first global museum of visual culture in Hong Kong. It opened exactly a year ago on November 12, 2021, located in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong. M+ isn’t only JUST a museum, even if you aren’t an arts enthusiast, you can and will be able to relate to and feel the world of visual culture through the exhibits, talks, workshops, performances and screenings.

Nalini Malani: Vision in Motion | Vision in Motion brings together three major artworks—Utopia (1969–1976), Remembering Mad Meg (2007–2019), and Can You Hear Me (2018–2020)—showcasing the evolution of her practice over the past fifty years as she embraced new technologies and ways of working. Hong Kong: Here and Beyond captures the city’s transformation from the post-war decades to the present day. Home to ground-breaking artists, architects, designers, and filmmakers, Hong Kong is a site of intense creative ferment and social and cultural transformation. Located at the Ground Floor.

M+ Museum 9More than 6,000 works is showcased across all galleries and every available space in the museum. M+ has 6 thematic exhibition as it opened last year. It features visual artworks, moving image works, digital media, sculpture, ink art, installations and many more from the M+ Collections which the museum has been building since 2012.M+ Museum 7M+ Museum 8

Aside from the exhibition, there is also a restaurant (CURATOR Creative Café at M+), museum shops (the Other Shop), cinemas and the roof garden where you will be able to view Hong Kong’s majestic skyline.

Admission fees were free for the first year. But starting today, prices are as follows: HK$120 for adults and $60 for children between ages seven and 17, seniors aged 60 or above, full-time students, and persons with disabilities. Kids under the age of six will be allowed to enter for free. Opening Hours: Tuesday to Thursday, weekend, and public holidays: 10:00–18:00; Friday: 10:00–22:00. Last entry to exhibitions is thirty minutes before closing. Reserve your entry via mplus.org.hk.
