It’s A Filipino Fiesta at Blue’s Clue and You

As Coco was watching his favorite cartoons in Nickelodeon, snippets of the brand new episode of Blue’s Clues & You! teaser has been showing in between. We’ve both been so excited because of how they’ve integrated the Filipino Culture in the show.

Blue’s Clues & You! is an interactive and educational children’s show, which is a reboot of the 1996 original, Blue’s Clues, which was the one I watched as a little girl. This reboot has a new host (third one!), Josh (Josh Dela Cruz), whom is a cousin of Steve and Joe from the original and of course, our good old friend, Blue. Like the original, they still have the same visual style that encourages audience participation.

It is actually the first time I learned that Josh has been vocal of his Filipino heritage upon being the new host of Blue’s Clues, when I saw the Filipino Fiesta teaser and searched more about it. Indeed, on and off screen of Blue’s Clues & You, he is a proud Filipino-American and one of the recurring characters of the show is Lola played by Carolyn Fe.

In relation to the International Family Day, Blue’s Clues & You gives us a brand new episode, entitled “Bibingka” that incorporates Filipino values, words and the best part of it all, food. Being a Filipino represented in one famous children’s show is everything. This is not just a mention, or a Filipino passing by in the episode, but a full episode acknowledging Josh’s Filipino roots, if anything, it is all about inclusion and such representation that they gave to us Filipinos in something this special, especially to someone like me, who grew up watching the original.

Let’s see if Josh’s Philippine-based Lola will approve Josh and Blue’s Bibingka when she visits as we catch the very special “Bibingka” Episode on Friday, May 14, 2021 via SkyCable/Nickelodeon channel 45. Thank you Blue’s Clues and Nickelodeon for celebrating the Filipinos.

  1. This is awesome! Aside from the fact that we all grew up with this show, I am really happy that they recognized the Filipino culture. Not to mention that they really baked a bibingka in this episode. Love it!!

  4. I may not be an avid fan, but I remember Blues Clues became a hit in our generation. Seeing the Filipino-infused values in the show somewhat makes me proud. And I hope to see more positive shows like this that we let our kids watch. Kasi iba na din yung mga programs today, right? Modern but sometimes lacking in depth or moral lessons.

  6. How nostalgic! I’m glad some shows encourage diversity and teach important life lessons. I watched Blues Clues as a child (I even had my own thinking chair) and enjoyed it immensely. Makes me super proud that a Filipino is the new host. Go, Josh!
