Disney has announced that Filipina actress and singer Kai Montinola will sing “Hangganan Ko,” the Filipino version of “How Far I’ll Go” for the upcoming live-action reimagining of “Disney’s Moana.” Fans can listen to the local rendition when it drops digitally on July 3.

“My favorite part of Moana’s journey is that she didn’t think she was perfect, she doubted at first, but she chose that fear. She chose to seize that fear, and there she was destined to do greater things,” said Montinola. For this young, multi-hyphenate talent, the collaboration is a dream come true being a lifelong fan of Disney and Moana. Even as a young girl, she felt a deep connection to Moana’s journey of overcoming vulnerability and embracing fear to fulfill her destiny.
“Moana has long resonated with Filipino audiences through its themes of family, courage, and connection to the ocean. As a nation with a deep love for music, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Kai Montinola on the Tagalog version of “How Far I’ll Go,” said Allie Benedicto, Marketing Director, Emerging Southeast Asia, The Walt Disney Company. “Kai embodies today’s young Filipinos who are full of grit yet filled with warmth, making her the perfect fit to sing “Hangganan Ko” meant for today’s generation of Disney fans and movie-goers.”
Kai will be performing “Hangganan Ko” at the Central Atrium of SM Mall of Asia on July 8 and the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside Cebu on July 12. A music video accompanying the promotional release of the movie is also set to drop this month.
The original English version of the song “How Far I’ll Go” was written and composed by Tony Award-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, co-produced in collaboration with Mark Mancina, and was performed by Auliʻi Cravalho. The song also won the Grammy award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and received Best Original Song nominations at the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards in 2017.
In “Moana,” Disney’s live-action reimagining of the beloved Oscar®-nominated animated adventure, Moana (Catherine Lagaʻaia) answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people. The film officially opens in Philippine cinemas starting July 8, 2026.
