Protect Your Transactions: GCash In-App OTP is Here

Digital security is evolving, and GCash is introducing a more secure way to verify transactions. In alignment with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) mandate for stronger digital security, GCash is shifting from SMS-based OTPs to In-App OTP.

Why the Shift to In-App OTP?

Traditional SMS OTPs can leave users vulnerable to risks like phishing attempts and intercepted messages, but the new In-App OTP feature addresses these pain points by moving the verification process entirely into the secure GCash environment. This update provides enhanced security by linking authentication to your app rather than your mobile network, which effectively prevents SMS interception by scammers. Additionally, it improves reliability by ensuring you receive OTPs immediately via push notification even in areas with a weak cellular signal, creating a seamless and faster way to authorize your payments directly where they happen.

How to Enable Your Notifications

To ensure you can continue to authorize transactions without interruption, you must enable your GCash app notifications before June 22. Follow these steps to activate them on your device:

  • Open the Settings app on your phone.
  • Locate your Notifications settings.
  • Find GCash in your app list and select it.
  • Toggle the Allow Notifications switch to ON.

Alternatively, if you attempt a transaction and notifications are disabled, the app will prompt you with a “Go to Settings” button to guide you directly to the correct menu.

Important: Ensure your notifications are active before June 22 to avoid any disruptions to your transactions. #GSafeTayo
