Their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, and their portrayal of the unconventional grandfather-grandson bond is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

The film’s early stages are undeniably entertaining, filled with wit and charm. The unwavering love between Lolo and Kid is the heart of the story, a bond forged through shared experiences and unwavering loyalty. It was unclear to me though, if Kid resented Lolo after he left him, but we can definitely feel the depth of their connection and the pain of their separation through Kid’s cries. What was clear to me though, was the understanding and forgiveness that grow up Kid had for Lolo the moment he saw him again many years after. He understood the sacrifice that lolo had to make for him to have a better life and finish school like what wanted.
The revelation of Lolo’s sacrifices through the photographs that grown up Kid found inside his Lolo’s bag after he passed was the most heart-shattering moment. Lolo must have tried his very best to endure his longing for his Kid, not being able to celebrate all the moments they used to celebrate and not being able to fistbump to “partners forever“. Kid was Lolo’s entire world, yet he needed to watch from afar without him knowing, trying his best to capture what he can through polaroids. Those photographs were a stark reminder of the love that endured through the years, a love that was silent but profound.
Through the Years becomes more than just a song in this context. It’s a haunting melody that encapsulates the bittersweet journey of these two characters. Prepare to have your heartstrings pulled and your eyes filled with tears. Lolo and the Kid is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates raw, honest storytelling.
