Tanghalang Pilipino’s Pingkian: Isang Musical

Pingkian: Isang Musical is Tanghalang Pilipino‘s final production for its 37th season, Unfiltered! It follows the revolutionary life of one of our country’s unsung hero, General Emilio Jacinto, which Vic Robinson plays. Pingkian: Isang Musikal is a full-length musical about the life of Emilio Jacinto during the tail end of the Philippine Revolution up to the start of the Philippine-American War. Get to witness the trials and triumphs of a nation on the edge of revolution as Jacinto navigates the complexities of war with an unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom.

Jacinto sustains serious wounds in an encounter with the Cazadores at Majayjay, Laguna. As he fights for his life, he is visited by the ghosts of Andres Bonifacio, his closest friend and the revered Supremo of the Katipunan, and Dr. Jose Rizal, his role model for citizenship and civic values. Together, they delve into Jacinto’s haunting nightmares and aspirations for a heroic death— an introspective exploration that serves as a poignant examination of the Katipunan’s conscience and his definition of Freedom.Pingkian isang musical
As mentioned above, Vic Robinson leads the “hukbo” as Emilio Jacinto/Pingkian with Gab Pangilinan, who plays his wife Catalina de Jesus and Florencio Reyes. Bituin Escalante as Josefa Dizon, the mother of Jacinto, Kakki Teodoro as Dr. Jose Rizal, and Paw Castillo as Andres Bonifacio.

Pingkian: Isang Musical resonated deeply with me. Jacinto, despite battling wounds and internal doubt, clung to the burning desire for Philippine freedom. Even facing a seemingly short life, he wrestled with the legacy he’d leave behind. Would his contributions be forgotten? Would the revolution falter without him? These anxieties intertwined with a glimpse of a brighter future for the Philippines, a future he ached to be a part of. Ultimately, “Pingkian” reminds us that all our heroes, from Rizal to Jacinto, played a vital role in the freedom we Filipinos cherish today. They are the stepping stones on which we stand.

This powerful message translates beautifully to our own lives. Every action we take, every choice we make, big or small, contributes to the tapestry of our future. Just like Jacinto, we can strive to give our all, ensuring minimal regret when we look back. By embracing this philosophy, we become active participants in shaping our own destinies, just as the heroes of the revolution shaped the Philippines’ path.pingkian isang musical jose rizal pingkianWouldn’t miss Vic’s theater comeback for the world! We were finally able to watch Pingkian. Not only that it’s so powerful, reminding us of everything that our heroes were fighting for, up until now, but the Vic Robinson, himself, such a powerful voice and force that surely brought the house down. He was indeed made to be Heneral Miling. Bias aside, since he is my brother-in-law.
