Movie: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Honestly, I am not so familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I know the Marvel heroes, yes. But the stories itself, don’t ask me about it. I know Spider-Man, of course. Spider-Man has been a fixture at home because my youngest brother was very addicted to Spider-Man as a little boy, and of course, he still loves the Spider now that he is an adult. My son, on the other hand, has loved Spider-Man as well since he was 1 year old. In fact his first film was The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Anyway, I, of course, had to watch the film because Coco is requesting to see it. Di bale na, I don’t know the story, I’d just ask Coco.
Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness Poster
Like all of my movie posts, I would always relate the movies to motherhood, and life in general. Nope, you came to the wrong spot if you are trying to look for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Movie Review. Because this isn’t. Knowing nothing of the MCU, I wouldn’t be able to write a review for you. But here’s two takeaways from the film.

Wanda Maximoff is a mother to twins, Billy and Tom whom she created in her false reality. But that Wanda with her children lives in a different multiverse – Earth 838. In the movie, we are currently in Earth 616, where she is without her children. Wanda sees her children in her dreams and because she is not with them, and waking up without them are nightmares. All she ever wanted is to be in the universe where she can be happy being a mother with her children. Since Wanda became Scarlet Witch, she learned that the only way to control the multiverse and be able to reunite with her twin boys is to get hold of America Chavez‘ ability to create portals between the dimensions of the multiverse. So spoiler alert. This is the main problem of the film – capturing America.
Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness Wanda and her kids
Very timely for mother’s day, right? You know a mother will do everything and anything for her children, right? Not that I am saying that destroying someone else’s life is okay, just to suffice one’s greediness. I’m just saying that it’s the same concept. A mother’s love is like nothing else in this world – it dares all things and it crushes down remorse all that stands in its path, says a quote by Agatha Christie.

This line from Wanda really struck me the most in the film. “If you knew there was a universe, where you were happy, wouldn’t you want to go there?” Because Honestly, when I feel so down, I would always think of a lot of “what if’s”. Like, what if I’d be happier if I made a different decision. That is a lot of instances in the last 2 decades of my life. I have some of decisions that I may seem to regret doing and despite of coming at peace to what came of with my life, it would still haunt me once again as years go by. So to answer that question, No. I won’t go to that universe where “I am happy”. Why? My mom would always tell me, you wouldn’t have Coco if things didn’t go this way. And I will be speechless after that. Because always, I wouldn’t trade my Coco-bear for anything in “my different universe“, even if I am happier there.

Towards the end of the film, Doctor Strange asks Wong is he was happy. Wong would reply (non-verbatim) that sometimes we would wonder what our other lives will be but we got to be grateful with the ones that we have. Because that’s the most important thing in life, right? To be grateful with everything we have and we don’t have in our lives and that whatever happens to us, is because of the choices that we made and the will of our Lord. As cliché as it sounds – Everything happens for a reason. If it didn’t happen yet or something hasn’t worked out for you, it only meant that something better is coming your way. Eventually, everything will fall into place, in its right timing, in its perfect moment.

Trivia: As this has already been my second film in the cinema since our life in the time of Corona begun, Doctor Strange is Coco’s first naman. He was so happy to be watching inside the cinema again, as it has always been one of our favorite bonding moments.
