You know that phrase, “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten“? That’s something I grew up with, something I truly took to heart. It always felt like this quiet reminder that despite our flaws or how messy things get, we should always embrace everyone—the good and the bad—and holding onto the memory of those who matter most – especially those who’ve passed on.
And then the new live-action Lilo & Stitch came out, and they added a line that just clicked: “Sometimes, family isn’t perfect. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good.” Like.. Wow. That just hits different, doesn’t it? It’s a beautiful truth that while some families are chaotic. We fight, we have problems, we annoy each other, but at the end of the day, we’re stuck with each other – and that’s exactly how it should be. We stick together, no matter what, even if one has to leave to chase their dreams.

Honestly, the live-action Lilo & Stitch just nails the very heart of what Disney is all about. The significance of Ohana has never resonated more deeply than it does here, especially as the film really gets into the heart of Lilo and Nani’s sisterly relationship, highlighting their journey with Kuleana – their shared sense of responsibility for each other. It’s genuinely moving to witness.

And can we talk about Maia Kealoha? She just absolutely shines in her breakthrough role. She truly brought Lilo to life, bringing both tears and genuine laughs with her performance. Seriously, this might just be the best Disney live-action remake to date, and for a family film this year? It’s definitely number one.
