#HowToMomABoy: To the only little boy I will love, always and forever (Valentine’s Day Edition)

Every Valentine’s Day, I am reminded that I am not part of the population that receives boxes of chocolates, bouquets of flowers nor teddy bears and date nights. Every Valentine’s Day though, since my little boy was born, I know for a fact that I will never be lonely on that day, because I have him. Yep, I’ll forever have a valentine.

Since he was a baby, Coco and I do something fun for Valentine’s Day. I always make sure that he feels my love for him more today than any other day. Little photoshoots, a Gymboree date, Kisses and M&M’s, Hot wheels and what not. I want to impart to him that today, Valentine’s Day, is one of the special days that he has to make the one he loves feel special, appreciated and loved – be it your family, your friends or in the future, his special someone. (Photo below: February 2014, his first Valentine’s Day)

I want to impart to him that it is not all about he grand gestures and giving the most expensive gifts. It is the thought that counts, cliché as it may sound. It is the time and effort that you give to your loved ones. It doesn’t matter if it isn’t an imported bouquet of roses from an expensive flower shop or a box of Royce or an Apple Watch. What matters is that it comes from the heart. But son, it doesn’t hurt too, if once in a while you give grand gestures too. It’s not so hard to raise a fine young gentleman who may or may not believe in grand gestures but will surely make “you” feel special. You just have to be that momma for him to emulate.

Every day, no matter how stubborn you can be, I realize how he have so much love in his heart. I love that he randomly tells me he loves me, even while he is very engrossed playing his fave game. I love that he makes cards out of the blue for me. I love how he gives me hugs and kisses, even if I got mad at him. I love how he treasures his friends.

He grew up into the sweet little guy I always wanted him to be. I hope he grows up to still know how to appreciate little things, be sensitive with the feelings of his loved ones, and knows how to openly express his love, not just with words, but with actions as well. I hope he will be like this until he grows up to be a fine young man, especially when it is time for him to make his girl feel special. Promise I won’t interfere. I’ll just watch you and smile. I knew for a fact that I did something right.

But until then, I’ll just savor all these sweet moments with him. I know I said that I will always be your Valentine. It’s okay, when the time comes, I’ll let you go. Hmmmm….

I may not be the most important person in your life forever, but you will be in mine. You may outgrow my lap, but you will never outgrow my heart. I love you always and forever my little valentine and thank you baby for always making mommy feel special.
